Global Water Technologies completes qualified testing for XPRIZE Water Scarcity
INDIANAPOLIS, December 22, 2025 — Global Water Technologies (OTC: GWTR) is pleased to announce it has completed its qualified testing activities for XPRIZE Water Scarcity, which includes 14 days of desalination operations with a system that produces one cubic meter of drinking water daily using a combination of innovative technologies.
The company completed its testing by combining traditional seawater reverse osmosis with capacitive deionization, UC-C LED disinfection and other complementary approaches to energy efficiency and brine management.
"We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this global challenges with the support of our partners that include UCC Environmental, US Water Systems, Voltea and AquiSense,” said Erik Hromadka, CEO of Global Water Technologies.
The Global Water Technologies team was selected as one of 93 teams reimagining system-level innovation from among a pool of 674 pre-registered teams from 86 countries. The Track A systems teams that completed the testing will be judged in 2026 to determine which move forward in the $119 million prize competition that is being sponsored by the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, an effort dedicated to raising awareness of water scarcity and accelerating the development and deployment of sustainable technological solutions.
